A national initiative of The Coca-Cola Foundation, First Generation
scholarships help expand opportunities for a college education for the
first member of a family to pursue higher education.
The Coca-Cola First
Generation Scholarship Program, administered in Florida by the Florida Independent College
Fund (FICF), provides a $5,000
scholarship to a student who is the first person in his or
her immediate family to pursue a college degree. During academic Year 2003
- 2004, students from 27 FICF member and associate
institutions will receive this prestigious award.
Current Coca-Cola First Generation scholars may be nominated
for a continuation of the
award if the following conditions have been
met:
- achieved a GPA of 3.0 or better for Academic Year
2002 - 2003
- meets all of the requirements for full-time student status
- has a record of community/school service and/or leadership
- submits an essay (limit 300 words) describing their
accomplishments during the previous school year
For institutions whose previous year scholar
did not achieve a GPA of 3.0:
- nominate a new student who meets the above
criteria (Sr., Jr., Soph., Fr.)
- submit applicant's essay (limit 300 words)
describing accomplishments during the previous school year
(if student is a freshman, essay can detail their goals)
- submit names, addresses, and phone numbers of three
references
(please note that student does not need to
obtain written letters of reference)
Note to institutions whose nominees are not
Seniors:
This is the final year of the original four-year
commitment for the Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship Program.
Although we hope the Coca-Cola Foundation will continue this
scholarship beyond the original four-year agreement, please understand
that the FICF makes no guarantee that this scholarship will be available
for the 2004-2005 academic year.
